Robinson Barracks
Stuttgart, Germany
Robinson Barracks is undoubtedly the most scenic of the four posts in Stuttgart. It and the Grenadier housing area command a great view of Stuttgart. The hill was originally an agricultural area, and although the fields are gone the vineyards still contribute to fine local wines.
In the 1930s, infantry regiments moved into the new posts, training at the foot of the hill where apartment buildings stand today. Immediately after the war, Robinson Barracks was then a camp for refugees and internees.
Today Robinson Barracks is primarily a housing area. However, families will find an elementary school, a library, a movie theater and the only combined Post Exchange and commissary in Europe, the CX, which also stocks a variety of furniture and the
4-Seasons and Toy store.
